What guides our faith, our worship, and our mission.

At Bowdle Seventh-Day Adventist Church, our beliefs are centered on Jesus, rooted in Scripture, and lived out in everyday life. We are part of a worldwide family of more than twenty-four million believers who follow Jesus, study Scripture, and share hope in communities around the globe. While our church here in Bowdle is small and close‑knit, we are connected to a much larger mission that reaches far beyond our town. The 28 Fundamental Beliefs of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church help guide our faith, our worship, and our mission. Below is a brief overview of each belief, with links to explore them more deeply.

The Bible is God’s Word to us — inspired by the Holy Spirit and telling the story of His love, His character, and His plan to bring hope and restoration to the world. In both the Old and New Testaments, we see God’s truth revealed and His plan of salvation unfolding. Scripture is trustworthy and the foundation for our faith and daily life. Through its pages, we learn who God is and how He invites us into a life with Him.
God is love — powerful, wise, and present with us. He has revealed Himself as the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit — three Persons who have always existed in perfect harmony. United in purpose and character, They work together to create, redeem, and guide us. Through the Trinity, we see God’s heart — a relationship of perfect love that He invites us to share.
God the Father is the loving Creator and Sustainer of all things. He is just and holy, yet endlessly merciful and gracious — patient with us and overflowing with steadfast love. Everything we see in Jesus and the Holy Spirit reflects His own character. Through the Father, we discover a God who cares deeply for His children and invites us into a relationship built on truth, trust, compassion, and hope.
Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, came to reveal the Father’s heart and bring salvation to the world. Through Him all things were created, and He showed us God’s character through His life of love, compassion, and truth. Born of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary, He lived a sinless life, died for our sins, rose again, and ascended to heaven where He continues His work on our behalf. One day, He will return in glory to take us home to be with Him forever.

The Holy Spirit is the eternal presence of God. He was active in creation and works with the Father and the Son to bring life, truth, and transformation. He inspired the writers of Scripture, filled Jesus’ life with power, and gently draws our hearts toward God. When we respond to His leading, He renews us, shapes our character, and helps us reflect God’s image. Sent to be always with God’s children, the Spirit gives spiritual gifts, strengthens our witness, and guides us into all truth.
God is the Creator of all things. In six days, He made the heavens, the earth, and everything in them, then rested on the seventh day as a reminder of His loving work of creation. Creation reveals His power, beauty, love, and intentional design — showing that we are made with purpose and invited to live in harmony with Him, with one another, and with the world He has made.
We are created in God’s image — uniquely made and able to choose. God designed us for relationship with Him and with one another. Though sin has damaged God’s original design, it has not erased His purpose, His love, or the value He placed in us. In every person we see both the dignity of God’s image and our deep need for His grace. Through Christ and by the Spirit, God works to restore His image in us and lead us into the fullness of life He intended.
We live in the middle of a cosmic conflict between Christ and Satan — a struggle over God’s character, His law of love, and the freedom of His creation. Though Satan’s rebellion brought sin, suffering, and brokenness into our world, God continues to work for our good. Through the Holy Spirit and His angels, He guides, protects, and sustains His children. Through Jesus’ life, death, resurrection, and ascension, the victory has already been won, and one day God will bring an end to all evil and make all things new.

Jesus lived a life of perfect love and obedience, showing us the heart of God in everything He did. Through His death on the cross, He took the weight of our sin, and through His resurrection He opened the way to new life for all who believe. His victory over sin and death brings us hope, forgiveness, and the promise of restoration. In Jesus we see God’s saving grace fully revealed, inviting us into a life made new through Him.
Salvation is God’s gift of grace, freely offered through Jesus Christ. When we accept Him by faith, our sins are forgiven, and we are born again into new life. The Holy Spirit renews our hearts, restores our relationship with God, and empowers us to live in love and obedience. Through Christ we find peace, purpose, and the assurance of eternal life.
When we accept Jesus, we begin a lifelong journey of growth and transformation. The Holy Spirit works within us to renew our hearts, strengthen our faith, and shape our character to reflect God’s love. As we walk with Christ, we learn to trust Him more deeply, serve others more freely, and live each day in the joy of His grace.
The church is God’s family on earth, a community of believers called to worship, grow, and serve together. United in Christ, we encourage one another, work side by side to reflect His character and share His love with the world. Through the church, God equips and empowers us to live out our faith, support one another, and join Him in His mission of hope and restoration.

God calls His people to remain faithful to His Word and to share His love and truth with the world. This faithful community, described in Scripture as keeping the commandments of God and holding to the faith of Jesus, carries a message of hope for all people. We call this message the Three Angels’ Messages — a call to worship the Creator, to embrace the good news of God’s grace and judgment, and to prepare for Christ’s soon return. Empowered by the Holy Spirit, we share this message with humility and compassion, inviting everyone to experience the freedom, joy, and restoration found in Jesus.
The church is one body, made up of believers from every nation, race, and language, united in Christ. Through His Spirit we are joined together in faith, hope, and love, called to serve and grow as one family. In Christ there is no division—only grace that binds us together as His adopted children, reflecting His character to the world.
Through baptism we publicly declare our faith in Jesus Christ and our desire to follow Him. Immersion in water symbolizes dying to our old life and being raised to a new life with Christ, following the example Jesus set for us. It is a moment of commitment and renewal — a testimony that we have accepted God’s grace, joined His family, and are ready to walk with Him in faith and obedience.
The Lord’s Supper is a reminder of Jesus’ sacrifice and a celebration of the new life we have in Him. As we share the bread and the cup, we remember His body and blood given for our salvation. This service invites us to reflect on His grace, to examine our hearts, and to renew our commitment to love and serve one another as He has loved us. The foot‑washing service gives us a chance to practice humility and prepare our hearts to receive the Lord’s Supper with gratitude and unity.

God gives every believer spiritual gifts through the Holy Spirit to build up the church and serve the world. These gifts are expressions of His grace, given in different ways to each person so that together we can share His love, strengthen one another, and carry out His mission. As we use our gifts with humility and joy, the church grows in unity, purpose, and the character of Christ.
The gift of prophecy is one of the ways God communicates His will and guidance to His people. Through this gift, He strengthens faith, brings correction, and offers hope for the future. The writings of Ellen G. White serve as a continuing light, pointing us to Scripture and helping us live in harmony with God’s Word. This gift reminds us that God still speaks to His church today.
God’s law is a reflection of His character — a guide for living in harmony with Him and with one another. The Ten Commandments reveal His will and show us what love looks like in action. Through the Holy Spirit, God’s law helps us recognize our need for grace and draws us closer to Christ. They teach us how to honor God, respect others, and live with integrity. Through Christ, obedience becomes a joy, not a burden, as His grace empowers us to walk in His ways
The Sabbath is God’s gift of rest — a weekly reminder of His creative power and that we belong to Him. It also points us to the redemption and renewal we find in Christ, reminding us that God is still at work in our lives. From Friday sunset to Saturday sunset, we pause from our usual routines to worship, reconnect with God, and delight in His creation. The Sabbath invites us to rest in Christ, remember His goodness, and enjoy time with God and one another.

God calls us to be faithful stewards of all He has entrusted to us — our time, talents, resources, and the world around us. Stewardship is more than responsibility; it’s an act of worship and gratitude. As we joyfully return tithes and offerings and serve others with what He has given us, we reflect His character and join in His work of love and restoration.
God calls us to live with integrity, compassion, and purity in every part of life. Our thoughts, words, and actions reflect His character and reveal His love to the world. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, we grow in grace, choosing what uplifts and honors God in how we live, care for our bodies, and engage with the world around us. Christian behavior is a daily surrender to Christ — allowing His life to shape our choices so we grow in kindness, humility, and joy.
Marriage and family are gifts from God, created in Eden to reflect His love, faithfulness, and unity. God designed marriage as a lifelong covenant between one man and one woman, built on love, respect, and mutual commitment. Within the family, we learn responsibility, grace, forgiveness, and the joy of belonging. As we nurture our homes with prayer, compassion, patience, and Christlike love, we create spaces where faith can grow and relationships can flourish.
Jesus is our High Priest, ministering on our behalf in the heavenly sanctuary. Through His perfect sacrifice and ongoing intercession, He offers forgiveness, grace, and the assurance that our lives are held securely in His hands. His work in heaven reveals God’s justice and mercy working together for our salvation. As we trust in Christ’s ministry, we find confidence, hope, and the promise that He is preparing all things for His return.

The return of Jesus is our blessed hope. His coming will be personal, literal, visible, and world‑changing, bringing an end to suffering and the fulfillment of God’s promises. Because no one knows the day or the hour, we look forward to His return with joyful anticipation, living with readiness and purpose as we share His love with others. We believe His coming is near, and Christ’s return reminds us that history is moving toward restoration and that every act of faithfulness and love matters until He comes again.
In death, we sleep in the grave, awaiting the resurrection Jesus promised. Scripture describes death as a peaceful rest, not something to fear, but a pause held safely in God’s care. When Christ returns, He will awaken His people to new life — whole, restored, and free from pain and sorrow. The righteous who have died will rise, and the living faithful will be transformed, and together they will meet the Lord in the air. This hope anchors us in grief and reminds us that death is not the end, because Jesus is the Resurrection and the Life. The second resurrection, for the unrighteous, will take place a thousand years later.
After Christ’s return, His people will reign with Him in heaven for a thousand years while the earth lies desolate. During this time, God’s justice will be revealed as the records of life are opened and sin’s story is fully understood. At the close of the millennium, Christ and His people will return, and the devil, his angels, and all evil will be destroyed forever. The earth will be cleansed and made new — a home of peace, joy, and restoration where sin will never rise again
God will create a new heaven and a new earth, free from sin, sorrow, and death. In this renewed world, His people will live with Him forever, continually growing, learning, and rejoicing in peace, love, and beauty beyond imagination. With the Great Controversy ended, every trace of pain will be gone, and creation will be restored to its original harmony. The New Earth is the fulfillment of God’s promise — a home of joy and worship where His presence fills every heart, and where we will live with Him forever in the world He always intended for us.
